Twist it. Pin it. Spray it.

I’ve been so tempted lately to just lop all my hair off into a bob that I’ve almost had to physically restrain myself. I keep having to remind myself, that I do actually quite like the length it is (though it does need a trim I admit) and the reason I don’t go shorter is because I occasionally like to hide behind my hair. Oh and the rentoids would probably murder me in my sleep if I did chop it off! Maybe when I’m officially an adult I’ll contemplate it again…

Anyway, in order to prevent myself from taking drastic hair action, I’ve been slowly obsessing over vintage hairstyles. Back in September, I tried out the rolls that Casey showed on her blog and they have fast become one of my quick staple styles if I don’t have time in the morning (which I never do). But I’ve been looking for other, simple (emphasis on that), hairstyles to try out and thankfully, youtube is my handy help!

Trying out pin curls, with vague success

I unearthed these few gems of tutorials for vintage hairstyles: 40s inspired updo and from the fabulous Super Kawaii Mama, perfect pin curls & 30 second faux victory rolls. After youtube, there is the mindless staring at photos in flickr groups such as vintage hair. Sadly though, the combination of laziness and hair confusion means that I never quite get round to figuring out how to do some of the styles, whilst simultaneously making them look more modern. Thus, we make a round about trip back to you tube and slow progression in hair realms on my part. Still, at least pin curls work on my hair, rather than rag rolling (my normal curling method) which has never worked quite as well since I cut my hair to about shoulder length.

I gather though, from folks like the wonderful Rhiannon of Liebemarlene, that the simpler method of spicing up shorter hair is with the aid of hair accessories. So, I do believe when I break up on Friday (holidays are a coming!) I shall be doing a spot of diy headband or clip making, just like I suggested a few months ago… anyone fancy joining in this time?

I really want to master finger waves.

I love that top left picture. I wish I knew how to do anything with my hair. It’s too fine, so nothing stays in it.

Chelsea – wow, that’d be amazing! Do show me if you master them.

Amelia – the photos are gorgeous, they’re all from the vintage hair group on flickr.

i’ve been tempted also to cut my hair off, the fact thats its hassle free and easy to style are quite nice, although i keep telling myself that i can style my longer hair in really nice ways, i can have nice up do’s if i want to shorten my hair length, but also go back to it to. Plus the hair styles mentioned here look lovely :) x

I love fiddly hairstyles, but I can never do them! I still have yet to master a French plait… I’m glad you’re posting again! ^^ x
