Zip tricks
I cannot begin to describe how overjoyed I was when my feed reader showed that there were 2 new posts on Bits + Bobbins. Tricia’s blog is one of the few which always makes me think. I like blogs that make me smile, blogs that impart knowledge, blogs that inspire etc etc, but I do think best of all, I like blogs that make me just stop and ponder for a while.
Anyway, Tricia did a faves & obsessions post, which led me to a wonderful tumblr blog, Farpitzs. In case no-one knows, I do keep a tumblr blog myself (where I basically dump random stuff that inspires me on my travels around the net) so it was simple to start following Sara’s blog and enjoying her fabulous fashion related tumblr posts.

One of yesterday’s post entailed these amazing zip creations by Kate Cusack. The sculptural quality to them is something I don’t normally go for, but I’m totally fascinated because they are made from zips. Zips, of all things! They are far far too expensive for little ol’ me, but I’ve been marvelling at them nonetheless.
The creations immediately reminded me of that zip necklace mentioned on Style Bubble a while ago and made by Outsapop. I was utterly fascinated with that necklace too.

So fascinated in fact, that I eventually discovered that Outi had even gone to the trouble to post a tutorial on Cut Out + Keep (fab diy site with loads of projects for those who haven’t discovered it yet). On the face of it, it looks really difficult to do, but clearly it’s not completely impossible. Double fascination obviously means I’d like to play around with a fabulous zippered creation. So I’m now thinking I really need to get to the market and get myself a stash of zips! We’ll have to see what emerges…

Those are really cool. It’s amazing what sort of shapes you can make with zippers.

wow they look so strange but wonderful! the thing is they don’t look awful, but when you think of jewelery made out of zips its easy to think of tackyness, but the pictures here make it look sophisticated and more grown up. nice article! :]
