Latest finds: Small snippet

What a week it has been! I am unbelievably glad that it is Sunday. The weekend has been mainly recovery in the form of sleep, though I did get dragged out to my dad’s play yesterday. Still, there is always a little bit of time to blog, even if it just a quick post for the moment (I am working on the next sewing basics post, so hopefully I’ll have that done and up some time in the next week)

Just a few of my recent finds in charity shops and vintage shops. I have not been able to go as much recently and I’ve noticed, I’ve been quite a bit more picky when I do go.

latest finds 19oct08
Just a snippet - paisley dress, bright button down skirt, faux fur coat & red dress.
I think a most of this & other stuff I’ve got will be altered and then added to the shop when it’s open!

The ladies over at Wardrobe Remix have been discussing whether they’ve felt the current economic climate (which I shalln’t go into because it’s been harped on about virtually everywhere) has been affecting their shopping habits. So maybe that’s my reason for being pickier? I guess we are all going through a harder time though and I guess everyone is cutting back and thinking twice…? And also, I guess it’s the reason why there has been a renewed interest in craft/diy recently - which I have to say pleases me immensely!

I know not everyone is going to be cracking out sewing machines, knitting needles or crochet hooks (or whatever craft you happen to enjoy) because, having been asked yet again to knit someone a scarf (I mean yes, she offered to pay me, but firstly, I am so slow when it comes to knitting and secondly, when do I have spare time to knit her a scarf?!) I know that some people will never bother; but there are loads of people who are bothering (such as yourselves!) and I applaud them from the bottom of my heart.

Hope you’ve had a good weekend thus far! How have you spent it?

That paisley dress looks really cute. Honestly, the economic recession hasn’t affected me at all in terms of my spending. I make several times more money than I did a year ago, so if anything I spend a little more. I’ve never been much of a spender, though. It’s hard to really know how the recession affects me, since I don’t have stock or investments and it would be extremely unlikely for me to be laid off from my job. I just feel kind of distant from it all. I feel like I ought to spend less as moral support to others, but we probably hurt the economy more by not putting money into it. Thanks for your Html help, btw.

ooh the paisley dress is so cute!!!
I’ve made myself a deal to pretty much only buy (until next May, or longer!) used clothing or clothing that’s on closeout, so it’s hard to really feel it even though the American economy TOTALLY SUCKS right now (tons of people getting foreclosed and kicked out of their houses/apartments…)
luckily none of my money was in stocks, and hopefully my apartment is in good hands (inshallah), but…let’s hope this gets better for everyone.
sorry to have gone and done what you seem to have set out not to do, talk about that stuff ^^;; everyone’s nervous here…

Wow–those look like great finds!!! :D

I’ve definitely been trying to cut down on my consumption (even more than I had before, considering I haven’t purchased mass-retail since last December). Though it may have a tiny bit to do with the worldwide economic crisis, I do think it’s more to do with trying to pay off my credit card. ;) haha! But I think it’s fantastic that people are using these hard times to rediscover handcrafts and perhaps a new hobby for themselves! :) I definitely am enjoying the upsurge in creative energy going on…

I wish I had such good luck at charity shops!

I’ve cut back on my spending a lot, but then this has all coincided with my graduating from university, and I actually have less excess funds now than I did whilst still a student. I’m definitely finding myself wearing old stuff in a new way rather than shopping for new clothes, though I think I’m going to need to find a few warmer items in the next few weeks! Perhaps I’ll give the charity shops another go!

My gosh, such wonderful replies from everyone! It’s so interesting to read how you feel stuff is affecting (or not affecting as the case may be) you, since obviously, I only have a 17-year-old British teen with no worries about bills perspective.

Aw great finds, I’m loving the paisley dress! I haven’t charity shopped in a week or so.. not like me, I should get to it! (As in tomorrow :) haha)
I think it’s very good of you to do the sewing basics posts. I really wish I could do more than basics by hand, but my mum’s machine is so ancient!

the red dress look really lovely!
my weekend was pretty boring, as ever!
