Age of 17
The only day when the Stevie Nicks song actually applies. Yes, it is indeed my birthday today. And yes, I am 17. Happy birthday me! Hehe.
Today, we had a mufti (non-uniform) day at school, which was fandabulous as you can imagine. I’ve been wanting to wear this nautical themed dress for a while, but I’ve been really worried I’d look exactly like my mother. It was her dress originally and I already look quite like her… anyway, I thought I may as well go for it, so I wore it today.
- Earrings: market in Turkey
- White t-shirt: dorothy perkins
- Gold necklace: ? I found it in my house
- Sailor style dress: hand-me-down
- Red socks: topshop
- Silver pumps: charity shop
Now, as (I’m sure Selina can testify too) my school is almost devoid of personal expression in terms of clothing. As my english teacher once said “You give people the option of wearing their own clothes and they all come in a uniform”. There are a great many clones, which I’m sure is the case in a lot of places, but sometimes you could view this as a positive thing because it means that those with personal style stand out. I by no means consider myself to have a wonderful style, but I try to wear what I want and I do so with little regard for fashion trends, what people will think etc. Basically, I dress for ME. Which is the way it should be I believe. Maybe this means I do stand out and have personal style, I don’t know. Personally, I feel I’m still in the process of finding my style - maybe it’s a continual process, who knows. You decide in your own minds.
BUT anyway, back to my story. So as you know, I was wearing this outfit at school today. At the end of lunch, I was handing in my IT coursework (all coursework finally done, yay!) and my teacher said to me “Leah, where is your dress from?” Obviously I said it was my mothers and then she said “Wow, really? You truly do have original style.” What joy! Whether I actually have an ‘original style’ (if there is such a thing) is purely subjective, but like I imagine most other people would feel, I was elated. I think they went on to dicuss it (there was a small group of other y12s in the room too) but I left at that point.
That was the joy of my day. I came home and decided I’d take a photo for wardrobe remix. Halfway through, I got a little bored and started jumping.

Yes, I am aware I did an open-mouthed faux shock expression a lot.
It’s amazing how much fun can be had with a tripod, self-timer and a little bit of jumping action! That was the conclusion of my day so far. How is May going for all of you thus far?
