No spandex for me matey!

Ack, sorry for the quiet atmosphere of the blog. Things will pick up again after May 22nd. Not just for the blog, but for the website as a whole. Watch this space after then!

For a while now, I’ve been contemplating using my bicycle as a mode of transport (to & from school would be most likely). Mostly because,

  • I don’t like buses
  • I won’t be driving for ages
  • I need to do some more exercise and it would be a good way of introducing it into life
  • Err… the whole green environmental thing?

A number of reasons have prevented me in actually doing it, such as my dislike of my bicyle (I want a vintage one because they’re much prettier!), my inability to wake up in the morning (big factor), the unfortunate area I live in and of course how I’d look (no-one wants to turn up at school looking like a sweaty mess in horrid attire). Of course, the few stylish folks the sartorialist has photographed (such as the one pictured) can make you think twice about that last point.

Today, I stumbled upon Cycle Chic, a London based website/blog which is dedicated to showing us females that it is possible to ride a bike whilst looking über cool. Though much of the information provided is specifically related to Londoners, some of it is useful for anyone riding a bike or contemplating riding one. I have now discovered there is a whole area of the style blogosphere dedicated to cycling style - how amazing!

That is my inspiration for the day: cycling in style. It makes me forget about all the other reasons that have been preventing me from cycling - I now really want to ride to school! All I need is a suitable bike… and a helmet, lock, somewhere to park, basket, some practice… not a lot…

I like to ride my bike in a dress with bike shorts underneath. American Apparel has got some cotton shorts that aren’t suffocating and don’t look like “bike shorts” bike shorts. that way I can stay cool, decent, and cute at the same time =P and if the bike shorts are too long and look funny peeking from beneath my dress, I take them off when I arrive at my destination.
I wish the US had a better bike culture in general. I envy places like Holland where people just ride bikes…not for racing, not for exercise, just for transportation/leisure. *Europe envy* hahaha~

Oh, I love bicycles. I cannot ride them though, unfortunately. Maybe I should learn.
