Hairy issues
I’ve already spoken a little about my thoughts on fur. I’ll admit to being a little confused about fur at present because, though I loathe fur, I keep remembering my own hypocrisy as I’ll happily wear leather shoes. I know I’m not the only one in this pickled boat as Jennine of The Coveted, spoke about fur last week. My friend put it wonderfully the other day:
“Well, people eat cows and sheep, but generally, we don’t eat chinchilla.”
Regarding why I picked this particular photograph. On my blog browsing (which I do when really I should be working) I came across this photograph and it struck me in 2 ways. Firstly, because it was a fur coat. And secondly, because it was a child (I’d say about 12?). Now I know you’ll say that I am technically still a “child” (nearly 17…), but I just find it bizarre that such a young person dresses in such a grown up way. I certainly didn’t wear anything of the sort at that age. It just seems to reinforce the idea that children are growing up earlier (topical debate of the week in the news - they seem to forget that it wasn’t all that long ago that ‘childhood’ was a foreign concept and children were perceived as ‘mini adults’) along with the recent popularity of fur.
I feel most sorry for all those animal rights activists. So, now that fur is seemingly becoming “in vogue” (for the hugely fashion conscious) I ask only one thing of you; if you have to get real fur, at least go for a vintage fur - that way no more animals would need to die. For me personally, if I’m feeling fur inclined, it’ll always be fake (I got a rather nice fake fur hat the other day… I shall show you in my next installment of secondhand finds) despite the immense hypocrisy I have looming over me in doing so.

Leave a commenti understand exactly where you’re coming from. I’m a vegetarian and I was ELATED when i bought my gorgeous pair of Topshop boots last year. Real leather. Now I’m wanting a fut coat, not a real one though but a vintage one, but then i think am i a hypocrite if i buy a vintage fur coat?
The picture of the little girl is quite eery and sad too. Why does she look so much that she’s been pushed infront of the camera, she probably has a Chanel clad mother smiling controllingly behind the scenes…
haha very long comment =)

Personally, I can’t touch real fur clothes without feeling like I need to wash afterwards. I have no idea why. Really, it just depends what you’re comfortable with - if you don’t mind wearing vintage fur then wear one.
Real fur is meant to be warmer (and it’s definitely softer in texture as I felt one only the other day - yes, I wanted to wash my hand 10 times afterwards!) than fakes, so I can understand why people wore them in the past…
Haha, you’re probably right with the mother idea and don’t worry, I love comments!
