Knit up some vintage
My knitting skills are not what you would call advanced. Mostly because after I’d re-learnt to knit (purl, cast off/on etc) I made very few items, therefore I could not improve. The crochet skills are on a similar line but that’s more to do with learning that recently than not practicing. Nonetheless, in my recent enthusiasm with avoiding the high street, I have been revisiting knitting. More to the point, I wish to improve enough to be comfortable with making my own garment patterns.

As you know, I have a new love for the old and secondhand (or vintage as it has come to be known). I think that there was more emphasis on creating your own style in the past rather than the more consumerist ideas there are now (i.e. everyone dressing similarly & just eating up ‘fast fashion’). So, naturally, I spent a couple of hours searching the net for some patterns. I came across various good sites and blogs (just type in ‘vintage knitting patterns’ into a search engine and you’ll get a whole load) in the search. One of these was V&A, which had a bunch of patterns from the 1940s (a.k.a knitting in it’s prime).
I’ve decided to start small and work up. So whilst I have printed some jumper patterns, I thought I’d try out some small like the “turban” pattern on V&A just to get my wavering skills up to scratch. I’ll post some photos of the progress with this refreshed knitting bug.
